Susan Roskam started The Bougie Buffalo in March 2022 in a small town located at the base of the Wichita Mountains. Her primary goal was to employ her daughter, who is autistic, as well as offer the same opportunity to all exceptional people to show their talent through unique products. How We Became BB
The name The Bougie Buffalo came about because we are 3 miles south of the Wichita Mountains, a refuge for a large buffalo (bison) population. Also did you know that unlike a cow who will run from a storm, a bison waits for the storm and in fact and will take it head on and run into the storm. By doing this they shorten the duration of having to suffer a storm. Naturally humans try to avoid inevitable challenges but we, Rachel and I, have decided to challenge our lives and face the storm. We have weathered many storms. We cannot control when they come we can only control how long we will suffer it. We continue to face hardships and find that we are on the other side of those hardships after a short duration. This business is the storm and finding the customers is our goal. Rachel is enjoying this stage of her life, it hasn’t been easy for her. Friendships are hard to form, things are hard to do at times but she continues to move forward even with limitations and with a huge smile on her face. Being autistic and low IQ is hard but she goes through life with grace. We are learning that we are not in control of the storm, only one person is and he is guiding us through this storm we call a Boutique!
So we named our store The Bougie Buffalo because as we go through the storm we are staying fancy doing it. If you are going to be anything, be a badass buffalo, not a cow.
